After iPhones, Foxconn in talks to assemble Apple iPads in India

May begin assembly in Tamil Nadu

Sources told ET that the Taiwanese contract manufacturer may begin assembling iPads at its existing facility in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur.

Moving Beyond iPhones

So far, Foxconn has only assembled Apple’s smartphones in India. “Foxconn is seriously looking to start assembling iPads out of its Tamil Nadu facility,” according to a source.

Show of Confidence

This will be seen as a big show of confidence in the rapidly expanding supply chain for Apple’s iconic products in India.

Reducing Reliance on China

Apple’s plan to expand its product assembly in India appears to be a part of a strategy to reduce reliance on China. It had already moved some iPad production to Vietnam last year.
