India's Navy is set to boost its underwater strength with three new Kalvari-class submarines. These advanced subs will feature modern electronics and propulsion systems.
MDL is in advanced talks with the Defence Ministry for a ₹35,000 crore deal to build three new Kalvari-class submarines with 60% indigenous content.
The new submarines will be larger than the original Kalvari, offering greater stealth and longer endurance, equipped with advanced electronics and propulsion.
These submarines will be constructed indigenously by MDL, with significant work outsourced to MSMEs, ensuring substantial technology transfer and local industry boost.
The construction of these submarines is expected to create at least 5,000 jobs, with a significant portion of the contract value remaining within the Indian ecosystem.
This deal comes as a relief for the Navy, addressing the urgent requirement for conventional submarines as older fleets reach the end of their service life.
