Jaguar Land Rover, owned by Tata Motors, revives the Freelander as an electric vehicle, targeting the Chinese market.
In partnership with Chery Automobile, JLR will produce the new EV Freelander under the CJLR joint venture, leveraging Chery’s facilities.
Targeting China's tech-savvy market, the new Freelander aims to compete with domestic brands like BYD and Great Wall Motor.
The Freelander EV will be manufactured in Changshu, initially for China with future global export plans.
JLR will also begin local assembly of Range Rover models in India, aiming to double its business there over the next three years.
Under the ‘Reimagine’ strategy, Jaguar will shift entirely to EVs by 2030, with 60% of Land Rover models also becoming electric.
